The Fernz, our New Zealand F1 in Schools team, embodies the spirit of our nation. Just like the iconic fern that represents our country, we strive for growth, adaptability, and resilience. With our strong determination and innovative mindset, we aim to outperform our competitors, leaving a lasting impression on the global stage.
OUR BRAND
We are kiwis. Sandal-wearing, BBQ-having, sausage sizzle-loving kiwis. We, being the first New Zealand F1 in Schools team to go to the World Finals, wish to bring our New Zealand culture to the big stage.
The fern, one of the national symbols of New Zealand, represents our New Zealand values. And the liberal usage of green in our graphics represent the abundance plant life and flora in our country.
OUR TEAM COLOURS
#000000 : "Deep Dark"
Black represents the deep dark of the New Zealand night sky.
#ffffff : "Star White"
White represents the vibrant colour of New Zealand stars.
#70cc4b : "Fern Green"
This green is used in the majority of our brand. This vibrant green links to the flora of New Zealand.
#355e3e : "Dark Fern Green"
This dark green is used to darken and emphasise our Fern Green colour.
#e3ffa6 : "Fern Chartreuse"
This light Green-Yellow colour (chartreuse) is used to highlight the Fern Green needed in our branding.
INTRODUCING THE CREW
Our team was meticulously chosen within the pool of inaugural New Zealand teams which attended the 2024 Australian National Finals. These teams, Aotearoa1, Ngā Tūī, and Marino thoroughly prepared for the National event and secured a place in the 2024 F1 in Schools Worlds event. Learning from Nationals, the team are all prepared to face any challenges Worlds may throw.
Wendy Lin
TEAM MANAGER
Leading the winning New Zealand team in the 2024 Australian National Finals for F1 in Schools, Marino, Wendy has the experience to lead the inaugural New Zealand F1 in Schools World's team. Her organisational skills allow her to efficiently lead the team and to make sure team members are staying on track.

Janelle Huang
GRAPHIC DESIGNER
A talented artist and a passionate speaker, Janelle manages our branding. Having designed for the leading New Zealand team in the 2024 F1 in Schools Australian National Finals, Marino, Janelle Huang knows how to design meaningful, memorable, and effective logos and graphic elements for trade displays, websites, and team kits alike.

David Zhang
MANUFACTURING ENGINEER
With a solid grasp of physical limitations and technologies, David knows how to turn designs and ideas into physical products. Working closely with our Design Engineer and Logistics Engineer, he helps facilitate a productive creative environment and his understanding of CNC and 3D printing processes roots our car designs to the physical world.

Matthew
Stubbs
CAD + CFD ENGINEER
With a strong work ethic and a passion for the automobile industry, Matthew manages events and plans. With a holistic knowledge of the F1 in Schools regulations, Matthew considers the feasibility of ideas of teams and creates plans to put ideas into action. Having served as the Design Engineer of one of the inaugural F1 in Schools New Zealand teams, Ngā Tūī, he works with the other engineers to discuss and create innovative car designs.

OWEN JIANG
FINANCE MANAGER
An expert in economics and mathematical analysis, Owen serves as the finance manager for our team. In his role in the 2024 Australian Nationals as the Business Manager, he is an expert at gathering an audience, collaborating with sponsors, and making lifelong industry connections. His role as finance manager ensures the team uses its monetary resources appropriately and efficiently, without overspending on miscellaneous costs.
